TUCXS: In Honor of Ted & His Unicorns

STP is excited to announce that we have completed a new connector trail in Adams CampTUCXS: Ted’s Unicorn Express!

TUCXS is named in memory of Ted Preston. The name TUCXS: Ted’s Unicorn Express originated as a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. STP is proud to continue that tradition in honor of Ted by donating all proceeds from the sale of our TUCXS trail signs to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

TUCXS connects the Luce Hill Trail on Trapp Family Lodge property to Haulapalooza on the Adams Camp trail network via singletrack and keeps users off the Haul Road. Please access this new trail from the Trapp’s Bierhall or Adams Camp parking area.

Join us Saturday, May 15, for the grand opening of TUCXS!
STP will be onsite to spread the cheer and the chance to pre-order your TUCXS Trail Sign supporting Dana Farber.

TUCXS was made possible by the generosity of a private landowner; therefore, please be respectful while using this trail. Public trail access is a privilege, and we are all responsible for being good trail stewards. E-bikes are not allowed on TUCXS or the Adams Camp network.

TUCXS: In Honor of Ted & His Unicorns

In November 2018, family, friends, and colleagues lost a beloved father, husband, friend, coach, and neighbor, Ted Preston, to Pancreatic cancer. Everyone who knew Ted has a story and a memory from an adventure they had with him.

Ted was immensely talented and purpose-driven; he was confident and humble; deeply thoughtful, and also quick-witted and humorous; a graceful communicator but fiercely passionate for the people and causes he loved; selfless in his commitments of time and mentorship, but driven to get things done. He accomplished so much in a short time.

Anywhere outdoors was a place Ted wanted to be. In the winter, skis were almost surgically attached to his feet – come backcountry powder glades, hard-pack groomers, or spring corn. Spring through fall, when not coaching soccer, Ted was perpetually astride a bike, slicing through the VT forests and tackling technical trails. Ted unfailingly had a bright face and a smile bordering on a grin when he was outside, and he meant it every time he exclaimed at the end of one adventure or another, “that was awesome!”

When you ride TUCXS, you can channel Ted’s spirit for adventure and smile at the thought that he’s along for the trip.
