In this tumultuous period, in which we’re each striving to increase our knowledge of and sensitivity to racial equity issues, Stowe Trails Partnership is motivated to address anti-racism in the outdoors and host a workshop related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access of black, indigenous and people of color in recreational spaces.

STP is beyond excited to host Mirna Valerio; ultramarathoner, newish cyclist, and diversity, equity, and inclusion educator- on a workshopping ride in Stowe, VT. You may know MIrna as the “Mirnavator” – she has become an icon in a space where virtually nobody else looks like her. Mirna’s athletic story has made waves and in the viral REI-produced documentary short, The Mirnavator. Her writing has been featured in Women’s Running Magazine, Self Magazine Online, Outside Online, and Runner’s World Magazine. Most recently, she was chosen as a 2018 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year.

This workshop will take place on your bike*, as we ride along the Stowe Recreation Path. The group will tackle issues of identity, social justice, and antiracism at each stop along the route. We’ll ride a few miles, engage in experiential learning, be in community with each other, and build skills to start and/or sustain antiracism work in all areas of our lives. This workshop will take place in-person, outside, and on your bike. 

The workshop will end at The Alchemist Brewery, where we welcome participants to chat with Mirna and continue the discussion over sudsy refreshments.

*This workshop is appropriate for all levels of riders. Any type of bike is welcome and is sufficient for this ride. The Stowe Recreation Path is a flat and paved multi-use trail, winding along the Little River.
